Project Runway
Thursday, August 28, 2008, 10:35 PM 3 comments

I'm a Project Runway fan.

I do not know much about fashion...i enjoy watching the show simply because i love the creating process.

I was watching Project Runway Australia on youtube, and surprised to see a Malaysian designer on the show. His name is Lui Hon Wee Min and he's Malaysian living in Australia.

He is very very talented. I didn't manage to see our own Malaysia Project Runway, sad, my best friend Quin won second place and her final collection is simply breathtaking. Anyway, let's not get away. Lui has got a very distintive style, his work is very youthful and i like his attention to details. He got to the top 4 now and i'm waiting for them to post newer episodes. I certainly hope he get all the way to top 3. Make us proud, we need this !

This is Lui, quite good looking in my opinion. He seem like a really nice guy on the show. Very polite and timid.

Photobucket

I super love this dress. The theme was 60s. I know it looks pretty ordinary here...but the details on the back and sleeves is so amazing...can't find any other picture so settled for this.

I also love this design, it's sort of his signature work. Layers. But i find it awfully similar to Jay Mccaroll's (Project Runway US season 1 winner) work. Maybe because of the headphones, i don't know. The judges said something like :"It seems like you need a user manual just to put this outfit on." Heck, life is boring, we need something like this to make our life more interesting, don't you think? If not, why "FASHION" exists?

Go Lui, I wish him the best of luck !

His sister so generous..bought him an authentic Louis Vuitton wallet...(i think cost atleast 3k, so envious)

Ofcourse, a photo with the handsome lad

This little girl too cute

Finally ready for viewing.

(Is the dress really weird looking? It looks pretty okay to me. If she is shorter perhaps it wouldn't look good)

I did the overall styling and makeup too.

Looking forward to shoot their wedding in September, [this] is their wedding website. (was happy to see that they selected one of my favorite photos to feature on the front page yay)

I am listening to John Mayer, Gravity (acoustic version), such a nice rendition. Check it out [here]

Andrew's Surprise Party
Thursday, August 14, 2008, 10:09 PM 0 comments

I'm back ! Before i resume to my work...let me make a blog post first.

(Note : Beware of crappy pics ahead ! Had too little time to shoot, and my friend hasn't emailed me the pics yet. Why they never email one la)

Let's talk about Andrew's 33rd Birthday !

This was not the first surprise party for him, if i remember correctly, i organized atleast 3-4 surprise party for him. You would think since i do it every year, he won't be surprised anymore. Well, I have to say with some help from my friends, this party turns out to be a rather successful (minus a few incidents here and there) one.

Venue :
The new Le Ark Cafe was an obvious choice for me. I just looove the design of the building. Andrew and I passed by it couple of times and we were always saying once it opens we will go and try their food. Well, it did open officially and once i've found out, i immediately made reservations with them.

Food :
Buffet style

Cake :
I didn't want ordinary cake, (not my style). I actually wanted Cupcakes, but i don't think there's any bakery in Sibu makes decorative cupcakes. So i settle with these choco waffles (not sure if this is the correct name)

Guests :
We really have a large group of friends, especially those that play badminton with us almost few times a week. But i can't invite them all due to budget issue, so i nailed it down to 20 person, mostly close friends, including some of his personal friends too.

Theme :
The space they offered us for the party was on the second floor, and it's an open air area facing the Rejang River. With dim lights, it really looks like we're on the beach ! (pathetic, i know) So, the theme was ofcourse Hawaiian !

Dress Code :
Casual, colourful, easy ! Hawaiian !

My friend Shun was incharge of deco for me, but he was away in KL until the day before the actual date of his birthday. I must admit i was very anxious and i thought we couldn't get things done perfectly since we had such time crunch. On the day itself, i left them plan on the deco. Andrew had to work that afternoon and i resume my normal routine which was badminton game. (I didn't want him to suspect anything la)

I asked them to lay some coconut tree leaves on the table, but what they did was far more than that. They even weaved a flower necklace for Andrew using wild flowers gathered in Jeanie house. Jeanie's father was so kind, he was the one that used a parang knife and cut the tree leaves for us. And all of it costs ZERO.

I want to thanks Jeanie and Shun for the planning, and everyone else for helping on the deco, i don't care what he thinks, but i really loved the atmosphere when i stepped in. I was stunned !

Flaws:

On the day of the event, both Sibu and Kuching had a massive blackout, it happened around 6.30pm, lasted 'till about 8+ (i think). The venue was set on 8pm, but Andrew wanted to go out earlier due to the blackout, ofcourse he thought we were just having regular dinner on our own. The original plan was, they sing birthday song upon our arrival. But when we got there, they were still decorating the place. I remember Andrew was telling me :" Eh other people are having party, we better enter from another side". Yes, he was very very surprised when he saw familiar faces, imagine the look on his face, priceless !

There were only 16 people at the party, the rest never showed up. I guess they were too busy to inform me. (apa lah i wasted all the food la, ofcourse i mad)

The bakery charged me extra RM 30 just to rent the three tier steel rack as opposed to the original :"Oh we only collect deposits." statement. But i manage to bargain and they have returned me RM 15.00. Not too bad.

The cakes are way too sweet !

Photo taken by Simon, further edited by me, hahaha.

Nonetheless, it was still a very special night. The most important thing was probably spending it with the company of such wonderful friends.

PS : And oh best dress goes to Kenny ! (the one holding coconut beside Andrew) . He didn't even wear shoes to the party ! So Hawaiian right?

Housing Roadshow
Friday, August 1, 2008, 8:26 PM 6 comments

The first Sibu Housing Roadshow organized by Sheeda and Veto Event Management was also my first official event shooting.

When Jessica and Jamie (from Veto) approached me to be their photographer, i was very concerned. Shooting events is not really my forte, i was afraid that i might not be able to deliver a good job. Honestly there was also something else that bothers me : I was afraid that it may not have much room for me to express my creativity. And if i did it my way, will they like it? Most event photos i've seen are rather flat and boring, taking pictures of local politicians smiling and shaking hands? -_-. No, confirm not my thing at all.

When i express my concern with them, Jamie kindly reassured me that they recruit me because they thought my pictures will be great for their portfolio, and that i can shoot 'my way'. They are very kind people indeed, so i took the job as a challenge and it has proven to be a very good experience for me.

I took alot of photos throughout the event, but i'm just going to post some of my favorites here. Just for the record. ;) (no pictures of Datuk here hahaha)

Setting up, i think this worker brought along his son or something, this little guy was very very helpful !

Reflection on the elevator

The grand opening was scheduled on 11-ish, i arrived around 9am

A gift to the grand VIP, YB Datuk Robert Lau

This was actually shot on the last day of the event, Jessica wanted some crowd photos so i went there and snaps.

Lunch session, remember the mango duck?

Albert and Elizabeth (Bridal Photos re-shoot)
7:04 AM 8 comments

Yes more weddings !

This is actually a re-shoot session for Albert and Elizabeth because they actually already married and did their bridal shoot in Kuching sometime ago. We had abit of difficulty at first, i've arranged 2 sessions in a weekend but it didn't work out because on the 2nd day, the weather was really moody and foggy. Then we postphoned it to the following Sunday. I'm glad things work out fine after that. Sometimes weather is such a biatch and i just want to strangle myself. -_-

Gorgeous sunlight

This turn out to be my favorite favorite shot, love the texture on these rocks.

We passed by this gorgeous flower field and i just had to shoot here, thank you Uncle for giving permission ya.

Andrew being the perfect asistance as usual :)
